Quick Start- Assessing an App

Before you can assess an application, you must load the app into your inventory.

Click on inventory and choose the apps tab. Then click “new app.”
Fill in the new app form. The name and at least one owning Organizational Unit are required.
Check that you have an assessment type that targets applications. On the admin module, click “manage assessment types.”
Click the names of any assessment types that look relevant. In our example, the “Application Minimum Security Standards” assessment type has a target of “app,” as shows in the edit assessment type window that pops up when you click it.
If none of the existing assessment types will work, use the box to add a new assessment type. Make sure you choose “app” as the target in the drop-down list, and click “save.” Otherwise, you can skip this step. Either way, make a mental note of the name of the assessment type you want to use to assess your application.
On the admin module, click on “manage assessments.”
Click the + sign to create a new assessment.
Fill out the new assessment form, giving it a name and due date. Be sure to choose an assessment type that has a target type of “app” (as you figured out in an earlier step). Only relevant question lists will be shown. Click the check box to publish the survey immediately. Click “next”.
Type in the name of the application (which is already in your inventory). Then click “create.”
To actually perform the assessment, go to the assessment app. Under Current Assessments, locate the new app assessment you just created. Click the “launch survey” button.
Click the “in progress” link to access the survey and fill out questions.
Fill out the questions and lock them when you’ve finished.
Once all questions have been answered and locked, you can click the “acknowledge” button to mark the survey as complete.
Back on the main assessments page, classify the app using the drop-down list and click “lock.” The entire app assessment is now complete.
